Common questions

Solar cost FAQ.

How much do solar panels cost in Victoria in 2026?

For a quality 6.6kW system, typically $5,000 to $8,500 fully installed after the federal STC discount, or roughly $3,500 to $7,000 for households eligible for the full $1,400 Solar Homes rebate. A 10kW system runs $9,000 to $13,000 after STCs. Market ranges for quality gear, checked against published Australian pricing data on 26 August 2026.

What's included in an installed price?

Panels, inverter, racking, labour by an SAA-accredited installer, grid connection paperwork and the discounts applied at the point of sale. Watch for quotes that exclude metering changes or switchboard work; ours itemise them upfront so the bottom line is the actual bottom line.

Why do quotes for the same size system vary so much?

Component tier does most of it: premium European inverters and top-shelf panels can add thousands over quality mid-tier gear that performs nearly as well. The rest is your roof: two-storey installs, steep pitches, tile fragility and switchboard age all add labour. An itemised quote shows exactly which is which.

Is cheap solar worth it?

Usually not. The bottom of the market runs on gear picked for price, rushed installs and warranty companies that may not be around to honour the paperwork. The difference often works out to a few hundred dollars a year over a system's life, and the quality system is typically still producing well past year 15. Mid-tier quality is the honest sweet spot.

What do solar panels cost in regional Victoria compared to Melbourne?

Broadly the same bands. Regional installs sometimes carry travel loading with metro-based installers, which is why we batch regional runs across our installer network: Bendigo, Ballarat, Shepparton and the rest of our 100+ towns get quoted from the same market ranges you see on this page.

How long until solar pays for itself in Victoria?

Payback varies widely with how you use power, and it improves when heating, cooling or an EV shift usage into daylight hours. It depends on your usage, tariff and system size, so the payback estimate in your quote uses your actual bill rather than a brochure number.
