Off-grid · Regional Victoria

Off-grid solar for the properties the grid forgot.

Farms, bush blocks and remote homes across regional Victoria. A small weekender setup typically runs $8,000 to $25,000 installed; family homes run from around $29,000up. Off-grid is a different engineering job to rooftop solar, and we'll tell you honestly when a grid connection plus battery beats it. Market ranges checked 26 August 2026.

Compiled from published Australian off-grid market data, checked 26 August 2026. Site access, autonomy days, generator backup and winter sizing drive the spread, which is why off-grid always gets a property-specific design rather than a postcode price.

The honest test

Off-grid or grid plus battery? The one question that decides.

What would a network connection cost you? If poles and wires to your block run into serious money, off-grid wins easily. If a healthy connection already exists, keeping it and adding a battery usually delivers the same blackout resilience for less, because the grid stays as your backup. We'll talk you through both options honestly and show you where the crossover sits for your property.

Common questions

Off-grid FAQ.

How much does an off-grid solar system cost?

Typical Australian installed ranges: a small weekender or cabin setup (1-3kW of solar with 5-10 kWh of batteries) runs roughly $8,000 to $25,000. A modest family home (4-6kW with 10-20 kWh) sits around $18,000 to $42,000, and a full-load family home (7-12kW with 20 kWh or more) runs $35,000 to $80,000+. Site access, autonomy days and backup generation drive the spread. Market ranges checked 26 August 2026; off-grid is always quoted per property.

When does off-grid actually make sense in regional Victoria?

Three situations, honestly: a new connection quote from the network that runs into serious money (remote blocks can be quoted tens of thousands for poles and wires), a property at the fragile end of a long rural feeder where outages are routine, or a deliberate choice for independence on farms and bush blocks. If a healthy grid connection already exists, a grid-tied system with a battery usually beats going fully off-grid on cost.

What's in a proper off-grid system?

Solar sized for winter output, lithium battery storage sized for your autonomy days, an off-grid inverter-charger, and almost always a backup generator input for the darkest weeks. The engineering matters far more than it does on-grid, because there's no grid to lean on when sizing is wrong.

Do rebates apply to off-grid systems?

Federal STCs apply to eligible off-grid solar the same as grid-tied, which meaningfully cuts the panel cost. Battery and other incentives have eligibility rules that depend on the system and property, so we confirm exactly what your setup qualifies for in the written quote rather than promising upfront.

Can you convert an existing grid-connected home to off-grid?

Technically yes, and occasionally it makes sense at the end of a failing rural feeder. But staying connected and adding a battery usually delivers the same blackout resilience for far less, because the grid remains your backup generator. We'll tell you straight which side of that line your property sits on.

Do you service remote properties?

Yes. Our installer network covers 100+ Victorian towns and the properties around them, and off-grid work is quoted with site access built in. The further out you are, the more the design visit matters, so off-grid quotes start with a proper conversation about your property rather than a postcode estimate.
